The Work of Habitat for Humanity Mexico

Habitat for Humanity Mexico has been dedicated to creating housing solutions across the country since 1989. Over the years, they have developed a range of programs that address the specific needs of Mexico’s communities. Their work goes beyond building homes; Habitat Mexico also focuses on disaster response, water and sanitation solutions, and building infrastructure that supports whole communities. In regions hit by earthquakes and other natural disasters, Habitat Mexico has played a pivotal role in helping families rebuild and regain stability.

One recent initiative that stands out is Habitat Mexico’s focus on creating sustainable kitchens, providing families not only with a safer cooking space but also with healthier living environments. By upgrading kitchens with modern and sustainable features, Habitat Mexico helps reduce respiratory illnesses caused by open fires, improves family health, and creates a positive environment where families can gather. This kitchen initiative has been a powerful addition to Habitat’s work, transforming lives in ways that go beyond traditional homebuilding.

A New Partnership: Habitat Capital District's Tithe to Habitat Mexico

In October 2024, Habitat Capital District proudly announced a multi-year tithe commitment to Habitat Mexico, deepening the ties between our two organizations. Through Habitat’s global tithe program, U.S. affiliates like ours share a portion of our revenue with Habitat affiliates abroad, fostering a cycle of generosity that transcends borders. This new tithe commitment is a testament to our dedication to Habitat’s mission worldwide and allows us to make a tangible impact on communities in need.

As part of this partnership, the Habitat Capital District’s 2024 tithe will directly support Habitat Mexico’s kitchen program, enabling the construction of six new kitchens. These kitchens will serve as essential resources for families, promoting healthier cooking environments, improved nutrition, and safer homes.
