Everyone deserves a cozy place to call home

The holiday season marks a time of reflection and gratitude for many of us. This time of year brings cheerful memories of traditions spent with family and friends in the comfort and safety of home…thoughts of warm holiday lights, festive decorations, and delightful smells of baking cookies. There is just no better feeling than being home for the holidays

Countless memories like this are made in local Habitat homes all times of the year. And this past year was one to remember for us. With the generosity of supporters like you, we were able to mark a big milestone: We built and sold our 150th house to a first-time, local homebuyer and her family. Just weeks later, our 151st homeowner closed on his home, too!

But even as we celebrate 151 families who have been able to spend cozy winter nights in the security of an affordable Habitat home, the number of people in need of better housing has drastically increased in the past year. Right now, 1,029 people in our community are waiting to hear from us about the next homeownership opportunity, and this number grows every day. Without an equally substantial increase in support, so many of our neighbors will continue to be priced out of the opportunities that an affordable home can provide.

On the left, Selma, our 149th homeowner, holding up her keys. In the middle, our 150th homeowner, Priscilla, holding her eyes at the closing table. On the right, Cortney, our 151st homower, is pictured with his son.

Your support this holiday season will not only help us to keep  building more homes, but will help us continue to advocate for better housing policies at the local, state, and federal levels. We believe that everyone deserves to know the safety and stability of an affordable home, and I know you believe that, too.

Just three years ago, we celebrated building 130 homes in the Capital District. Since then, we were able to complete 21 more homes because people like you have joined together to build a more just, more beloved community where everyone has a decent place to live.

Will you give today to help our neighbors build a stable foundation in the new year?

Happy holidays,

Christine Schudde
Executive Director

Together we:

Help families build strength & stability
A decent and affordable home can remove barriers to opportunities for financial stability, health, and more that families may have faced for years, if not generations.

Invest in neighborhoods
Decades of racist practices have caused many of our downtown neighborhoods to face housing discrimination, food apartheid, unsafe streets, and more. We work with our communities to revitalize the neighborhood because we believe every neighborhood should be a great place to call home.

Transfer property back to community control
Instead of absentee landlords or property investors making decisions about a neighborhood, power is transferred back to actual residents every time a Habitat home is sold to a local family.
